ASME Air Receiver Tanks, 80 to 260 Gallons

What an ASME air receiver tank is An ASME air receiver tank is a steel pressure vessel, built and stamped to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, that stores compressed air between the compressor and the shop. AERO offers three vertical air receivers of 80, 130 and 260 gallons, all rated for 145 PSI. With a rotary screw compressor the tank does three jobs. It holds reserve air for peak demand, so pressure holds when several tools run at once. It reduces short cycling when sized to the system. And the air cools in the tank, so part of its water drops out and leaves through the drain port instead of reaching the dryer and air lines. Who it is for Shops that run a standalone compressor: auto body and mechanical repair, tire service, woodworking, fabrication, CNC and manufacturing. Also anyone adding storage to an existing compressor room or building a system around a standalone compressor and dryer. If you are buying an AERO All-in-One, you do not need a tank: every All-in-One already has an ASME receiver on the frame. How to choose a size Pick the tank by the air demand of the shop, not by compressor horsepower alone. 80-gallon air receiver: 145 PSI, 1" NPT inlet and outlet, 1/2" NPT safety valve port, 1/2" NPT drain. Small shops, garages and light commercial air systems. $1,550. 130-gallon air receiver: 145 PSI, 1-1/2" NPT inlet and outlet, 3/4" NPT safety valve port, 1/2" NPT drain. Professional shops with medium air demand. $2,750. 260-gallon air receiver: 145 PSI, 1-1/2" NPT inlet and outlet, 3/4" NPT safety valve port, 1/2" NPT drain. Industrial shops and higher-demand air systems. $3,850. More storage helps most where demand comes in bursts. And the air cools in the tank, so part of its water drops out and leaves through the drain port instead of reaching the dryer and air lines.

Who it is for

Shops that run a standalone compressor: auto body and mechanical repair, tire service, woodworking, fabrication, CNC and manufacturing. Also anyone adding storage to an existing compressor room or building a system around a standalone compressor and dryer. If you are buying an AERO All-in-One, you do not need a tank: every All-in-One already has an ASME receiver on the frame.

How to choose a size

Pick the tank by the air demand of the shop, not by compressor horsepower alone.

  • 80-gallon air receiver: 145 PSI, 1" NPT inlet and outlet, 1/2" NPT safety valve port, 1/2" NPT drain. Small shops, garages and light commercial air systems. $1,550.
  • 130-gallon air receiver: 145 PSI, 1-1/2" NPT inlet and outlet, 3/4" NPT safety valve port, 1/2" NPT drain. Professional shops with medium air demand. $2,750.
  • 260-gallon air receiver: 145 PSI, 1-1/2" NPT inlet and outlet, 3/4" NPT safety valve port, 1/2" NPT drain. Industrial shops and higher-demand air systems. $3,850.

More storage helps most where demand comes in bursts. For a gallon figure matched to your CFM, read how to size an air compressor or request a quote.
